Whether in individual relationships or at a global level, there is a clear pattern.

Bad people hurt people who don’t deserve it.

But who decides whether a person is labeled as “good” or as “bad”?
Even people who seem good end up hurting others, and it is because of this truth…
For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard.
Romans 3:23

Is anyone good?

You may be offended to be included in the statement about failing our Creator’s standard of good.
But in your own life, have you never done things that are hurtful to other people?
Everyone, even the seemingly good people, are messed up and cause suffering.

But there is hope!
What you read above about “falling short” continues with the solution to the real problem...

Yet God, in his grace, freely makes us right in his sight. He did this through Christ Jesus when he freed us from the penalty for our sins.
Romans 3:24

The Solution

Though it’s true that people hurt each other, we cannot judge who is good enough and who is too far gone, because we all are guilty.

The real problem is what the Bible calls “sin”, which is any kind of failing or rebellion against God’s beautiful standard for what is good. But the good news is that one human did live up to that standard!
